What is Grey-Area Drinking?  Why do we need this new category when discussing alcohol consumption?  How can we address alcohol consumption in a gentle and compassionate way that doesn’t invoke further shame? How can we support those who want to get help but may not resonate with traditional recovery methods?

  • Define grey-area drinking and see where it fits on the spectrum of alcohol use disorder.

  • Discuss the importance of varied terminology when talking about substance use disorder.

  • Offer more support and resources to their patients who identify as grey area drinkers.
