Self-love is Not an Indulgence: It's a Necessity

Friday, May 24 | 10:15am - 11:15am

Presented by
Barb Stegemann

Barb Stegemann wrote her best-selling book, The 7 Virtues of a Philosopher Queen - a woman's guide to living & leading in an illogical world to reverse the equation for women, for the nucleus of the family to finally put themselves first and then take care of the needs around them. Barb uses her Maritime self-deprecating humour to bring home the importance of the virtues of balance, courage, and beauty (in a way you were never taught before) in a way that will ensure attendees are never held back by "perfectionitis" or fear and will leave with the courage and confidence to advance their lives through this powerful and engaging talk.

Participants will have received a copy of Barb's best-selling book, The 7 Virtues of a Philosopher Queen - a woman's guide to living & leading in an illogical world.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this workshop participants will be able to:

  • Draw from stoic wisdom to navigate through uncertain times. The 7 Virtues have principles that can't fail us and through the daily practice of the 7 virtues (wonder, balance, truth, courage, justice, wisdom, and beauty) key philosophical teachings will provide the ability to ask questions back. When being challenged by a person who is afraid of change or new methods, using the stoic method of asking questions back of the uninitiated helps to advance the person to understand why a new method is not intimidating, but rather will advance the situation.

  • Demonstrate the confidence to remove negative talk from their lives and understand that even though it might be difficult, it's advantageous in the long run. Often women are taught to be the mediators and keep everyone happy, but sometimes that's at our own expense if there are negative people in our lives. Removing the internal negative voice that holds us back from taking risks or growing in addition to removing external negative forces in our lives.

  • Utilize the methodology of visualization in advancing both their personal and professional lives.

  • Incorporate the use of humorous inspiration in their day-to-day lives as a way to provide comfort to themselves and others and enjoy the day, regardless of the challenges.
