Lenore Skenazy
After spending the first half of her career as a newspaper
reporter, Lenore wrote a column titled, “Why I Let My 9-Year-Old
Ride the Subway Alone” and created a media firestorm. She got
the nickname “America’s Worst Mom” (nice) and went on to
write Free-Range Kids, the book-turned-movement. Since then,
Lenore has lectured everywhere from DreamWorks to Microsoft to
Harvard Medical School, the Yale Child Study Center, and let’s not
forget the Bulgarian Happiness Festival. On TV, you may have
seen her on The Today Show, The Daily Show, or her own reality
show, Bubblewrap Kids (filmed in Canada!). In 2017, with
businessman Dan Shuchman, and the psychologists Jonathan
Haidt and Peter Gray, Lenore-cofounded Let Grow, the
nonpartisan nonprofit promoting childhood independence and
resilience. She lives in New York with her husband and beloved
computer. Her kids are gainfully employed. (At last!) And she
used to write for Mad Magazine, so she’s funny!
