Feeling Over Fixing: Redefining Meaningful Support
Saturday May 21 | 3:45pm - 4:45pm
Presented by Dr. Miriam Kirmayer
How do we support the people closest to us in times of uncertainty, stress, hardship, and grief? This talk weaves together storytelling and practical takeaways that challenge the conventional wisdom about what it means to show up for each other and reveals how we can exchange the kind of support that ultimately leads to closer connections and increased resilience.
At the conclusion of this workshop participants will be able to:
Identify the defining characteristics of different types of support
Explore the concept of toxic positivity, recall the reasons why it’s used along with the consequences it has for our well-being and relationships, and generate alternative supportive statements
Recognize and reframe the most common misconceptions and barriers that hold us back from giving and receiving support
